Day 1: Guilin - Chengyang |
Meet
in Guilin. Travel to Sanjiang,
and onto Chengyang, a large Dong
Village. Go on a walk up to a
pagoda for great views over the
surrounding Dong villages. Then
continue on foot to the villages
north of Chengyang to see the
local drumtowers and wind and
rain bridges, some of which are
over 100 years old. Overnight
in Chengyang. |

Day 2: Buyang - Meidi - Budai
-Chengyang |
Drive
for half an hour from Chengyang
to Buyang, home to a Dong minority
group that have very similar customs
to the Miao minority. From here
hike to Meidi (2 hours). Visit
the Cao Miao people in Budai who
speak the Dong language but whose
manners and customs maintain Mongolian
characteristics. Back to Chengyang. |

Day 3: Chengyang- Dragon Backbone
Rice Terraces |
Travel
to the Dragon Backbone Rice Terraces.
Enjoy several scenic viewpoints
around Ping'an, a Zhuang minority
village. Stay in Ping'an. |

Day 4: Hike through the rice terraces |
Take
a 3-4 hour hike from Ping'an to
Dazhai, the highest point in the
Rice Terraces (elevation: 1200
metres). See the Yao women who
are famous for their beautiful
pink embroidered costumes, heavy
silver earrings and ground-length
hair. As the sun is setting, hike
up to another viewpoint for great
views over the terraces. Stay
in Dazhai. |

Day 5: Rice terraces - Yangshuo |
Have
a relaxing morning taking in the
views. Then travel back to Guilin
and onto Yangshuo. That night,
enjoy dinner and shopping on famous
West Street. Stay in Yangshuo.

Day 6: Li River hike |
Travel
out to Yangdi village, from where
you will begin a 4-5 hour hike
along the Li River, through fruit
orchards and small mud-brick villages,
with the karst peaks all around.
Have a look around Xingping ancient
fishing villages, then drive back
to Yangshuo. Overnight in Yangshuo. |

Day 7: Bike riding to Liugong
Village
|
Ride
along the Tianjia River out to
Liugong, an ancient fishing village
with a history of 800 years. Have
lunch in the "Pavillion Restaurant",
a renovated Ming Dynasty pagoda
overlooking the river and karst
peaks. Then peddle back to Yangshuo.
Tour concludes. |
